YogaCare representatives attended the 22nd Annual CommunityHealth fundraiser, “Celebration of Care” on April 16 at the Radisson Blu Aqua hotel. CommunityHealth is one of YogaCare’s partner organizations and host site for the Englewood classes run by YogaCare. CommunityHealth is the largest totally free clinic in the nation, with its care and services very much needed by many Chicagoans who find themselves with no options for health care. The night included recognition of outstanding volunteers and supporters who go above and beyond to advance their mission. During the dinner program, YogaCare Co-Founder Greg Van Hyfte, a former patient of CommunityHealth during a period of lapsed health insurance after graduate school, shared a testimony of his experience as a patient and volunteer yoga teacher with the event attendees. YogaCare Co-Founder Julia Pedersen also attended the event, and photos can be seen HERE.
Julia Pedersen and Greg Van Hyfte have volunteered to teach at CommunityHealth since 2013 and 2010, respectively, and together launched the Englewood yoga program in March 2013 with fellow yoga teacher Lisa Espinoza. In recognition of their service and commitment through yoga program development and teaching, they were both named 2014 volunteers of the year, being presented with the Ilene Goodman Award at CommunityHealth’s annual volunteer party on December 5, 2014. Over the two years that the Wednesday morning YogaCare class has been in operation, the class has expanded into a larger room to meet the needs of the growing class size. CommunityHealth patients and community members alike attend the Yoga for Pain Relief class, making this a communal space for practicing and experiencing the benefits of weekly yoga. YogaCare is fortunate to have such a strong and thriving partnership with CommunityHealth!
