Marissa comes to YogaCare with a great enthusiasm and a warm spirit to enliven and relax her students. A newer teacher to the Chicago area, she comes to us from the Washington D.C. area. She taught the spring/summer 2015 Thursday night class at Chicago Family Health Center. Stay tuned for her next classes!
Marissa finds joy in the stillness of yin yoga, balanced with the yang movement of mindful vinyasa. She aims to teach yoga in a way that is accessible to each student, with a focus on mindful poses and on the meridians through which energy flows. She loves to learn and to be part of learning communities. She is certified to teach yin yoga through Bernie Clark and Paulie Zink and to teach vinyasa yoga through Tranquil Space in Washington, DC. She is inspired by yin with Sarah Powers and Danielle Polen, mindful vinyasa with Rich Logan, contemplative yoga with Tias Little, the music of Krishna Das, the philosophy of E.M. Adams, and the wisdom of Gabriel Halpern, with whom she studies and apprentices in the Iyengar tradition. She roots her learning through her home practice in yoga and meditation. Marissa also studies higher education policy as a senior analyst with the U.S. GAO. She holds a master in public policy from Harvard University and a B.A. in international studies and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is very glad to be part of the YogaCare community.
